With a knock at their front door, our group realise that their current period of free time has come to an end.
Opening the door, they are somewhat surprised to see Elliot. As usual however, he informs them he has been sent by his master to collect them once more.
After a short period of socialising, where drink and cake are consumed, they head off to Dreens.
Inside Dreen’s office is Gundren. He has become concerned – there have been no ore shipments for several days now from his mine in the Black Hills.
He is looking for some experienced and capable agents to uncover what happened and put things right, if possible. The group negotiate a fee of 25 gold and the services of an expert blacksmith.
He gives the group a map of the immediate area of the camp.
Heading off, the group realise they will be passing quite close to Ham’s farm – so decide to pop in and see how things are going. To their surprise, the farm seems to be thriving, though it seems as though it is more of a wayfarer’s rest stop now. There are many people sat around outside drinking beer and eating some roasted pork.
They reach the mine site in the late evening a few days later, deciding to head to the actual camp rather than camp in the woods, the group push on.
Parker notices some odd tracks spread throughout the camp, but they don’t look like footprints – the tracks resemble the spiked foot of some insect of considerable size.
They set up camp, and eventually everyone becomes aware of a faint buzzing whine that fills the air.
With thoughts of giant buzzing insects, Parker suggests they rig up some form of aerial deterrent to make it harder for flying creatures to attack them.
Settling down to an uneasy sleep, Mark takes watch.
And is completely surprised by a huge mutated frog that leaps into the camp. With a yell to wake the camp, Mark leaps into the attack. Despite it’s size the frog proves no match for the group and is quite literally butchered.
Returning to sleep to wait for morning, Mark again takes “watch”.
And is completely surprised by a group of large ants that appear as it from nowhere! They prove to be very squishy, and despite 2 more waves of them appearing they are once more swiftly dispatched.
Grumbling, they return to sleep waiting for daylight.
With the arrival of morning, the group head off to the mine entrance, and proceed to make their way inside.
The tunnel leads downwards at a 45degree angle, shining their light in front of them they make out a group of undead dwarves being led by two wights rushing towards them.
Once more the creatures are dealt with swiftly, and the group move on. The tunnel levels off and the group carry on – stopping at all the vertical shafts to look up at the sky.
Ahead, disturbed by the light of the torches, a group of wights are moving towards the group. Stepping forward, Mark along with Aryane head them off. The others remain behind to deal with them at ranged – when they notice a group of undead dwarves coming up on them from behind.
Like a whirlwind Parker is destroying the dwarves at a rapid pace. Only a bit slower, Mark and Aryane are re-slaying the wights.
